In one corner of Butterfly garden we have planted medicinal plants.You will see following medicinal plants in this corner.

  1. Lemongrass
  2. Hamelia Patens
  3. Lantana camera

  6. Plambago Zeylanica
  7. Holy Basil

1. Lemongrass, also called fever grass, is a perennial plant with thin, long leaves that is indigenous to many Asian countries. As the name implies, lemongrass smells like lemon, but it tastes milder and sweeter. This herb is used in various Asian cuisines as a flavouring agent due to its potent flavour.

Nutritionally, lemongrass is a good source of vitamins A and C, foliate, folic acid, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, potassium, phosphorus, calcium and manganese. It also has minute traces of B vitamins.

2. Hamelia patens is a large perennial shrub or small tree in the coffee family(Rubiaceae).The plants are used in folk medicineagainsta range of ailments, number of active compounds have been found in this plant ,including maruquine,isomarquine,pteropodine,palmirine,rumberine etc. The bark contains significant amount of tannis.

3. Lantana camera a Study conducted in India have found that Lantana leaves can display antimicrobial, fungicidal and insecticidal properties. They are used in traditional herbal medicines for treating a variety of ailments, including cancer, skin itches, leprosy, rabies, chickenpox, measles, asthma and ulcers

4. Hibicus Hawana-Leaves when ground to a paste with fenugreek sticks and water can be used as a shampoo and  conditioner for hair. Hibicus is a very effective home remedy for hair loss.

5.Shankeshwari-is used to treat ulcerated stomachs,colds,jaundice,piles,sore mouths,sore throats.

6. Plambago Zeylanica- is used as a stimulant digestant, expectorant, laxative and in the treatment of muscular pain and rheumatic diseases.

7. Holy Basil-Holy Basil is  also known as tulsi, is very useful in   oral care, relief from respiratory disorders, as well as treatment of fever, asthma, lung disorders, heart diseases and stress. , The scientific name of Holy Basil is Ocimum Sanctum
